Santa Ana, a city in Orange County, is located just 10 miles from the California coast. It is one of the most densely populated cities in the country and has an large hispanic population. The city shares its name with the Santa Ana Freeway, the Santa Ana Mountains, the Santa Ana River and the Santa Ana Winds. The Santa Ana Winds are historically known for fueling wildfires in Southern California.

In 2011, Santa Ana was named the fourth safest city with populations over 250,000 in the United States by Forbes magazine. It is also the fourth most densely populated city, for those with populations over 300,000, in the United States. The original Glenn L. Martin Aviation Company, precursor to Lockheed Martin, was founded in Santa Ana in 1912. Orange County is the largest employer for the Santa Ana area.

Though Santa Ana doesn't have any professional sports teams, the city is widely known for its successful high school sports programs. Mater Dei High School, a private Catholic school, has one of the best football programs in the country. The Dons of Santa Ana College are a very successful soccer team, having won the Orange Empire Conference title 15 times consecutively.

The large regional headquarters of AT&T, Xerox, and Ultimate Software are in Santa Ana. The city also is home to Santa Ana College, California Coastal University, and a two year community college. Several freeways run through Santa Ana, including the Santa Ana Freeway, the Garden Grove Freeway, the Costa Mesa Freeway, and the Riverside Freeway.
