The Big Bold American: 2017 Chrysler 300 Sedan

With roots that include the breakthrough 1955 and 2005 models, the Chrysler 300 takes the nameplate’s style and sophistication to new levels. The Chrysler 300’s heritage-inspired styling combined with world-class execution makes the large sedan stand apart from the competition. The large Chrysler sedan is offered in four trim levels: 300 Limited, 300S, 300C and 300C Platinum. For 2017, the Chrysler brand is updating its bold and blacked-out Chrysler 300S model with even more athletic and aggressive styling appointments thanks to new Exterior and Interior Sport Appearance Packages.

Standard with the 300S V-8 and available on the 300S V-6, the new Exterior Sport Appearance Package features a more aggressively styled front fascia with larger air intakes and integrated LED fog lamps highlighting the 300S model’s world-class handling and levels of technology. These fog lamps are exclusive to the Exterior Sport Appearance Package and are comprised of a strip of eight horizontal LEDs each, for an even more distinctive signature look at night.

Nestled below the Gloss Black headlamps and dimensional grille is a larger body-color painted Mobius strip, which further emphasizes the flagship sedan’s road-holding width, while tying in the brand’s design DNA. The Chrysler 300S model’s signature proportions take on an even sportier aesthetic as 20-inch (19-inch with AWD) wheels flank the new package’s sculpted side sills.

At the rear, Chrysler 300S model’s new Exterior Sport Appearance Package adds a deck-lid spoiler to complement the dual exhausts and further the sedan’s athletic appearance.

Base power is generated by a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine bolted to an 845RE TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. Upmarket models are equipped with the automaker’s legendary 5.7L HEMI V8 prime mover and joined to an 8HP70 TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick. All wheel drive is an available option.

There will always be spiritual successors, cars that iterate on what has come before. But cars with a true and long-lasting legacy are increasingly rare in an industry that often focuses on trends or simply following the lead of other successes.

As such, you will hardly find another car with the kind of legacy that is encoded into the mechanical DNA of every Chrysler 300 that rolls off of the company's line and onto America's highways. Though its look has been slightly reimagined for the new model year, the lines and curves that provide its distinct look still retains the essence of past designs.

The true draw, however, will undoubtedly be the Chrysler 300's engine and performance, and in that arena, there is certainly more than enough for the car to live up to the long legacy that has been laid upon its shoulders. The 2015 line has multiple packages available, 300 Limited, 300S, 300C and 300C Platinum.
