The state capital of Texas, Austin is a hub for politics and government in America’s second most populous state. But the city has also experienced a thriving business and technology sector since the 1980’s. The computer manufacturer Dell is based in nearby Round Rock, and companies such as Apple and Google have regional offices here. The region has embraced toll roads as a way to ease congestion on heavily trafficked roadways, with State Highway 130 constructed to connect I-35 north of Austin with Interstate 10 to the south. Within the city, a new 32-mile commuter rail line is the jewel of Austin’s public transportation system. Austin is also known as the most bike-friendly city in Texas, with more than 80 miles of dedicated bike lanes.
