Practical Off-Roading: 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited SUV

Billed as the most capable off-road vehicle in the world, the Wrangler Unlimited builds on the successful original Jeep formula which keeps this SUV one of the purest of the breed. The four-door Wrangler Unlimited is not afraid to “bring it” when it comes to – power, refinement, capability, interior space and comfort. Available in four models: Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon, the Wrangler Unlimited features iconic styling cues with clean, crisp lines. Jeep purists will find the same classic round headlamps, signature seven-slot grille, wide wheel flares, washable interior, solid axles, removable doors, exposed hinges and a fold-down windshield that have always defined the Wrangler line. Innovative features like removable and convertible tops add to the Jeep experience.

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited offers many options for top configurations from soft to body-color three-piece hard tops. Another highlight is the addition of a premium soft top. Available on all models, the premium soft top uses an easy to clean, upscale material. Consisting of three layers, the soft top also helps reduce interior noise and is easy to fasten.

Upgrades and enhancements for 2017 include the addition of LED headlights and fog lamps as standard equipment on Sahara and Rubicon trim levels.

Power for the Wrangler Unlimited is generated by a robust 3.6L V6 engine, with torque transferred to the ground through the standard NSG 370 six-speed manual gearbox. A W5A580 five-speed automatic with overdrive is an available option. All Wrangler Unlimited models feature one of two part-time four-wheel drive systems: NV241 Command-Trac or the heavy-duty NV241OR Rock Trac.

The Wrangler Unlimited SUV rides on a robust ladder frame which consist of front/rear live axles, leading/trailing arms, track bar, coil springs, stabilizer bar, low-pressure gas-charged shock absorbers (16-inch wheels), monotube high-pressure gas-charged shock absorbers (17- and 18-inch wheel packages).
